This is a weekly index of experimental theater and live performance in New York City: off-off Broadway, black box, downtown theater, performance art, devised work, gallery-adjacent performance, and weird homegrown live work.

It exists because this work is hard to find. It happens in seventy-four-seat houses, converted lofts, church basements, and third-floor walkups, announced on venue websites and mailing lists and nowhere else. No algorithm surfaces it. The listings here are an attempt at a single, legible picture of what is actually on in a given week.

This is not Broadway, not musicals, not tourist theater, and not a ticketing platform.

Every listing is sourced from a venue's official page, and every listing links back to that source. Availability is noted as it appeared when last checked, with the date of the check; always confirm with the venue. Tickets are bought from the venue or its own ticketing provider, never through us.

The index covers the venues on the venues page, with a bias toward artist-run rooms and houses with a history of supporting new and experimental work. Some venues with broader programming are included only when the work is performance/theater-adjacent.
